What to Expect During Communion at New Faith Church

Welcome to New Faith Church! If you’re new to our community or visiting for the first time, we want you to feel right at home. As part of our worship, we celebrate communion on the first Sunday of every month, and during other special services during the year. We’d love to share a little more about what that means.

What Is Communion?

Communion is a special time for Christians to remember Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and celebrate the unity we have in Him. It’s a time of reflection, gratitude, and fellowship, symbolized by the sharing of bread and juice. The bread represents Jesus’ body, and the juice represents His blood, given for the forgiveness of sins.

This practice is rooted in Scripture, where Jesus instituted communion during the Last Supper with His disciples. In 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, the Apostle Paul recounts:

"The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, 'This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.' In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.' For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes."

What Is Open Communion?

At New Faith Church, we practice open communion, which means that all Christians, regardless of denominational background, are invited to participate. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are welcome to join us at the Lord’s table.

What to Expect

Communion Elements

When you arrive, you’ll notice communion elements—small pieces of bread and cups of juice—prepared for the service. During a designated time, we will take the bread and juice together as a congregation after a brief message and prayer. Don’t worry if this is new to you; our Pastor will explain each step as we go.

What If I’m Not Sure I Should Participate?

If you’re still exploring your faith or prefer to observe, that’s okay! You can simply remain seated and reflect during this time. Communion is a personal act of worship, and we encourage everyone to participate in a way that feels meaningful and authentic.

A Place of Welcome

Communion is just one way we come together as a church family to connect and grow in faith. Whether you’re joining us for the first time or are considering making New Faith Church your spiritual home, we’re so glad you’re here.

If you have any questions about communion or our beliefs, feel free to ask one of our greeters, volunteer ministry leaders or talk to the Pastor after the service. We’d love to connect with you!
