What Is Benevolence Sunday?

At New Faith Church, we believe in putting God’s love into action by caring for those in need. One way we do this is through Benevolence Sunday, a special initiative held on the fourth Sunday of every month. It’s an opportunity for our church family to come together and provide support for individuals and families who may be facing difficult times.

Whether it’s offering a helping hand to a struggling neighbor or supplying pantry items to stock local food banks, Benevolence Sunday is our way of living out the words of Proverbs 19:17:

“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.”

How Does Benevolence Sunday Work?

On the fourth Sunday of each month, we collect donations to support our Benevolence Ministry. These donations go directly to assist those in need within our church community and the surrounding area. You can participate in one of two ways:

  1. Donate Pantry Items

Non-perishable food items are always needed to help stock our local food pantry. Some ideas include:

    • Canned goods (vegetables, fruits, meats, soups)

    • Pasta, rice, or boxed meals

    • Peanut butter, jelly, and other shelf-stable spreads

    • Cereals and breakfast items

    • Hygiene products (toothpaste, soap, etc.)

Just bring your donations to the designated collection area in the church lobby on Benevolence Sunday, and we’ll take care of the rest!

  2. Give Financially

For those who prefer to give a monetary gift, we also accept cash or checks. These funds are used to assist families in our community with immediate needs such as groceries, utility bills, or emergency expenses. Every dollar you give goes directly to meeting these critical needs.

Why We Do It

Benevolence is at the heart of our mission as followers of Christ. Jesus modeled compassion and generosity throughout His ministry, and He calls us to do the same. Benevolence Sunday allows us to:

  • Share God’s love in practical ways

  • Meet urgent needs in our community

  • Inspire hope in the lives of those who may be struggling

In Matthew 25:35-40, Jesus tells us that when we feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, and clothe the needy, we are doing it for Him. Benevolence Sunday is our response to that call.

How You Can Get Involved

Getting involved is simple! Here’s how you can make a difference:

  • Bring pantry items with you on the fourth Sunday of each month.

  • Give financially by placing your donation in the offering or designating it online for the Benevolence Ministry.

  • Pray for those in need and for God to guide us as we reach out to help others.

Together, We Make a Difference

Your participation in Benevolence Sunday helps bring hope and healing to those who are hurting. Whether you donate a can of soup or write a check, every contribution matters. Thank you for being part of this vital ministry and for letting God’s love shine through your generosity.

Let’s continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we care for our community and extend His love to all.
