Father’s Day can stir up a wide range of emotions—gratitude, nostalgia, even heartache. For many, it’s a time to reflect on the role of earthly fathers. But this week at New Faith Church, Dwight reminded us of something even deeper: our heavenly Father—our Abba—who loves without condition, leads with wisdom, and longs for closeness with His children.
In this special message, we’re invited to view God not just as “Father,” but as Abba—our deeply personal, affectionate, and faithful Dad.
🙌 Understanding the Dual Nature of God as Abba and Father
“Abba” speaks of intimacy, like saying “Daddy,” while “Father” emphasizes honor and reverence. Jesus showed both when He cried out in Gethsemane, “Abba, Father… not what I will, but what You will” (Mark 14:36).
“There’s a part of God that deserves reverence and respect—and there’s a part of Him that wraps you up like a Daddy who never lets go.” — Dwight
🛠️ God as Our Source, Sustainer, and Foundation
In the Aramaic culture, a father was defined as three things:
Source – the origin of life and provision
Sustainer – the one who maintains and supports
Foundation – the standard-setter and rock of the family
“Jesus is our rock—and through Him, the foundation of the Father’s love stands firm.” — Dwight
🧎♂️ The Power of Surrender
Dwight emphasized that the key to spiritual growth is surrender. Just as Jesus surrendered to the Father’s will, so we too must let go of control and yield our lives to God.
“God doesn’t give us too much at once—He chips away gently, lovingly, so we can become more like His Son.”
🌍 A Call to Live Like Sons, Not Guests
Dwight shared a vision from the Lord: “Don’t come to me like a guest—come to me as a son.” Sons have access. Sons belong. Guests feel like outsiders, but sons walk boldly into their Father’s presence.

“You have a key to the Kingdom. Use it.”
💬 Call to Action
Take time this week to sit in stillness before God. Let Him speak to you—not as a distant deity, but as your Abba Father. Surrender what you’ve been holding tightly. Trust Him to be your source, your sustainer, and your foundation.
About the Speaker: Dwight is a respected elder at New Faith Church with a powerful testimony of transformation.
