Sermon by: Tracey | Date: May 11, 2025 | Location: New Faith Church

On this special Mother’s Day, Tracey brought a powerful and timely message of redemption, faith, and forgiveness, drawing from the story of Rahab the prostitute in Hebrews 11:31 and Joshua chapters 2 and 6. While society labeled Rahab by her past, God chose her for her faith—and used her story to remind us all: our past does not define our future in Christ.
A Hero of Faith from the Margins
Rahab lived in Jericho, a fortified city marked for destruction as the Israelites moved into the Promised Land. Despite her background and her city’s pagan culture, Rahab chose to believe in the God of Israel. In her desperation, she confessed both her fear and faith, aligning herself with the God she had only heard about—but trusted completely.
“She let go of her past in order to reach for her new identity in God,”
Faith Over Fear: A Choice That Saved Generations
Rahab’s faith led her to protect the Israelite spies, risking her own life. That act not only saved her but her entire household. The iconic scarlet cord she hung from her window symbolized both protection and her new allegiance to God.
Her faith journey didn’t stop with rescue—it led to legacy. Rahab went on to become the great-great-grandmother of King David and appears in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1. God didn’t just forgive Rahab; He elevated her story into eternal significance.
From Shame to Honor: Trading Titles for Truth
Tracey compassionately challenged us to consider our own labels. Do we let our past mistakes—or others' failures—define how we see ourselves or treat others?
“Who have you labeled like Rahab the prostitute?” she asked. “What bitterness or hurt are you still holding on to?”
This Mother’s Day message reminded us that God rewrites names and destinies. Whether you’ve been wounded, walked away, or feel unworthy, redemption is possible. Like Rahab, your faith can change not just your life—but your family tree.
