Why God’s Word Still Matters Today

We live in a world full of shifting opinions, endless advice, and quick-fix solutions. But Pastor Rich reminded us this Sunday that only one thing stands the test of time: God’s Word.

In his sermon titled “Word”, Pastor Rich taught from John 12:44–50, where Jesus declared that His very words will be the standard by which we are judged. Just like a stop sign or speed limit sign carries authority whether we like it or not, God’s Word is the ultimate authority for life and eternity.

The Word Has Authority

When a police officer pulls someone over, it’s not their personal opinion that decides guilt or innocence—it’s the word written on the sign. In the same way, the Bible isn’t optional advice. It’s God’s unchanging truth, the measure by which we live and the standard that will guide us into eternity.

The Word Brings Life

Jesus said, “The Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. I know that his command leads to eternal life.” (John 12:49–50)

God’s Word doesn’t trap us—it saves us. It’s not about condemnation, but about salvation. Every command, every promise, every teaching in Scripture is an invitation to real, eternal life.

The Word Is Trustworthy

Our culture changes. Feelings shift. Opinions come and go. But God’s Word stands forever. When the ground feels shaky, the Bible gives us a foundation that will never crumble.

The Word Demands a Response

Hearing the Word isn’t enough. As Pastor Rich reminded us, delayed obedience is still disobedience. The Word calls us not just to listen, but to live it out daily.

This is why we invest in teaching Scripture to the next generation. As we saw in Kids’ Celebration Sunday, children are already declaring the truth of God’s Word. They’re learning stories of Deborah, Gideon, and Zacchaeus—and those seeds of faith will anchor them for life.

Practical Ways to Live by the Word

  1. Read it daily. Even 5–10 minutes in Scripture each day keeps your heart anchored.

  2. Write it down. Memorize a verse each week or post it where you’ll see it often.

  3. Pray it out. Turn God’s Word into your prayer—declare His promises over your life.

  4. Live it out. Obey quickly—don’t wait. Small acts of obedience build big faith.

  5. Pass it on. Share God’s Word with your children, friends, or coworkers. Don’t keep it to yourself.

👉 Bottom Line: The Bible isn’t just to be heard—it’s to be lived. Let’s be a people who not only know God’s Word, but walk it out every day. The question for each of us is simple: Will we live by the Word?
