What Happens on the Mountain: Why You Need a Core Altar of Prayer

Intro: What if the outcome of your biggest battles didn’t start in the valley, but on the mountain? This past Sunday, Pastor Rich continued our series The 5 Altars of Prayer, with a powerful reminder: We weren’t meant to do life—or prayer—alone. Drawing from Exodus 17, we saw how Moses' victory wasn’t in his strength but in the support of his core team and the presence of God.

Main Sections:

  • Victory Begins with Prayer: The sermon opened with a vivid parallel between a runner's high and the soul-refreshing high of prayer—both result in a release, but only one changes eternity.

  • The Hill and the Valley: As Moses lifted the staff of God, Israel had victory. When he dropped it, defeat came. Our focus must remain on God, not on our human limits.

  • You Can’t Pray Alone Forever: Just as Moses needed Aaron and Hur, we need people who will lift us up in our weakest moments.

  • How to Build a Core Prayer Team:

    1. Identify those already praying.

    2. Ask them to join you intentionally.

    3. Share your real struggles.

    4. Set a regular time to pray together.

Quote to Highlight:

“What happens on the mountain determines what happens in the valley.”
