From Pity to Purpose

God Is Not Done With You
We’ve all been there—those moments when we feel forgotten, invisible, or stuck in a spiral of self-pity. Maybe life hasn’t turned out the way you imagined. Maybe you've given your all and still feel empty. You’re not alone—and you're not disqualified.

Even the prophet Elijah, after experiencing a powerful victory at Mount Carmel, ran into the wilderness and cried out, “I’ve had enough, Lord...take my life” (1 Kings 19:4). He felt overwhelmed, isolated, and done.
But here’s the good news: God wasn’t done with Elijah—and He’s not done with you either.
When Elijah was at his lowest, God didn’t rebuke him. Instead, God fed him, whispered to him, and recommissioned him. God gently reminded Elijah that he was not alone and still had a divine assignment to fulfill. Elijah’s story teaches us something crucial: your valley does not void your calling.
God Wants to Deploy You
In the quiet whisper, God told Elijah to go back—to keep moving forward. And not only that, God gave him a companion in Elisha and reminded him of the 7,000 faithful still standing.
If you're sitting in self-pity, hear this: God wants to lift your head, renew your spirit, and deploy you into service.
You have something to offer. Someone needs your testimony, your compassion, your hands, your voice. Self-pity may feel real, but purpose is more powerful. You were never meant to stay under the broom tree—you were meant to rise and walk in God’s mission.
So What Now?
Look Up — Spend time in Scripture and prayer. God still whispers.
Look Around — See where there is need. There’s always room to serve.
Look In — Remember that the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11).
Get up. God is calling. Let Him move you from pity to purpose.
About Tony: My name is Tony Simpkins, and I’m the Strategic Operations & Growth Leader at New Faith Church. I’ve been walking with Jesus for over three decades, but my journey started with struggles, questions, and legalism that left me feeling unworthy. Through God’s grace, I’ve come to understand that salvation isn’t about what we do—it’s about trusting in what Jesus has already done. If you’d like to talk more about faith or share your own story, feel free to reach out. I’d love to connect!
